Refrigerators

The refrigerator or the fridge, as we commonly call it, is an appliance which has a thermally insulated compartment and works on a mechanism, which allows easy transfer of heat from the refrigerator to the external environment, cooling the contents to a temperature below normal. Refrigerators are used allover the world to keep foodstuff, which deteriorates at normal temperature. At lower temperature, such as that present in the refrigerator, the growth of the bacteria becomes difficult thus preserves the food.

Today, refrigerator is an essential appliance in every home. Virtually every home in the developed world has them. Life without them is hard to imagine. Refrigerator for domestic purposes are made in a large range of designs. A freezer is usually attached to them at different places resulting in different models. They can be stacked at the top, bottom or even side-by-side. The ones without the freezer still have a small place at the top to make ice. The drawer for vegetables usually occupies the lower portion. They can be free standing or built into the kitchen. A large domestic model can be as high as a standing man. The smaller models are usually around 85 cm high and can easily fit under kitchen work surfaces. The refrigerator shelving is quite adjustable, but varies from model to model. Spill proof shelves are a must if you have kids at home, because they can capture almost any spill. Reversible doors in some models allow both way access. If you are very much interested in wines and like them to have a perfect mature taste, then you might want to have a wine refrigerator. Wine cellar is not quite affordable however the wine refrigerators are a perfect solution. So drink your whites as well as reds without any extra chilling.

The newer versions of refrigerator have more conveniences to offer. They have an Automatic defrosting system. Due to the continuous refrigeration cycle, ice forms on the cooling coils resulting in its reduced cooling efficiency. The automatic defrost system identifies any such ice and melts any frost present around or between the coils. One cooler thing offered by many new refrigerators is that, they have an indoor station where chilled water and ice are available so you don’t need to open the fridge’s door. They also have an indicator light telling you when its time for you to change the water filter. The newer models do not use the CFC’s, so the refrigerators are not hurting the ozone anymore.

Refrigerators are usually taken for granted and their importance is only realized when your current refrigerator stops working. They are those machines created by mankind which allows us to purchase, store, freeze, prepare and preserve food for a time longer than what was previously possible. The luxury of buying food in bulk is a convenience, which is possible only because of refrigerators.
