Do not use line voltage halogen lights in, or under the cabinets as they are very hot and can be dangerous. You can also go for indirect lighting. Fluorescent strip fixtures are placed at hidden locations and provide a pleasant look.

Whenever you are doing a particular work in your kitchen, you need good light. For this purpose, you could have task light. These task lights provide you proper light, which focuses on your work. Pendant fixtures also look very cool in the kitchen, especially over the breakfast bar, or if you have some other eating place in the kitchen.
